A visit to this palatial home requires ascending eight, seven foot wide granite steps adorned by a massive wrought iron railing with period castings. Upon reaching the top covered entrance you are confronted by a magnificent set of eight foot tall common arched Honduran Cedar doors. Passing through them is akin to traveling through a time portal arriving back in 1925 and viewing afresh the refinements of that period. Architecturally, the incorporation of numerous columns, arches and plaster walls with radius corners accentuates and perpetuates the Tuscan motif. A large 1,200 pound limestone hearth reaches down from the kitchen ceiling to conceal the range hood. A fifth level ballroom balcony overlooks the breakfast nook and is fitted with a copper lined planter, to create a hanging garden to grace the kitchen ceiling. The breakfast nook envelopes the outdoors with six three foot wide by eight foot tall windows, painted above is a replica of a seventh century fresco. The home theater features reclining leather seats with 102 inch screen.

These are just a few of the beautiful things this unique home possesses. This creation is a resounding WOW, a perfect 10, nearly impossible to convey in any written terms. Pictures also fail to portray the beauty, flow and spaciousness of this most inviting space. It truly needs to be seen in order to appreciate the magnificent blending of colors, textures, murals, faux painting, 7th century artwork and exquisite detailing.

Beauty, you’ve heard ‘beauty is only skin deep’ not so in this home, it continues into the structure and infrastructure. This home is also smart by conserving energy and redistributing it, hot water is generated free by chilling the wine cellar. With five drilled wells (four for Geo-exchange – one for water), nearly 30,000 feet of wiring and over 5,000 feet of piping, one can only marvel at where technology, science and an outside of the box vision can lead to within the home building realm.

The growing public interest in alternative technologies, which eliminates direct dependence on fossil fuels and their associated environmental impacts should be of primary importance in 21st Century Building. This project is the convergence of science, engineering, art and craftsmanship incorporated into residential housing.

While we believe we have succeeded in the creation of the most extraordinary home design in Northeast Connecticut, the bigger news story is the merging of other technologies with geo-exchange technology. This technology has been available for over 30 years and yet very few Americans even know of its existence or understand the concept.
